this game kinda seems like one of those rare bad games that deserves a remake. Sounds like it had some great ideas that were just completely ruined by bad camera and controls Edit: remember kids, always watch the whole video before commenting lol

I'd say the only thing this game had going for it was the art direction/illustrations. Other than that, it seems like a "Baby's First Adventure" for some kids back then.

I played this a lot when I was younger too! I think liking this game is the reason why I like the Resident Evil 2 Remake too.

I can't understand how the game that killed mascot platformers for the 2D era ended up with *two* sequels. Who out there was saying "We don't want your platform game anymore because of bubsy, but also, yay, more bubsy!" Come to think of it, I feel the same way about the reboot, given 90% of people today know this character from this awful game.

The end of the end card really startled me good.

It was a thing I recall finding on accident (like one of those things where you hit a button accidentally and discover a weird extra mode that wasn't in the manual), but apparently there's some button that activates a sorta combat stance that I'd hazard was meant to help with the dodging problem but... 😅

I... really wanted to like this game. I really REALLY did. But I just don't. It's cute looking, story is standard which is fine. But the gameplay is... it's equivalent to tank controls; overly complex and impossible to get used to. This is my own fault of course.

Yeah, I can understand trying to figure out where the 'animated blood' is. Much like you, when I was a kid and a preteen, I SEARCHED for any remnant, any trace of any kind of blood. And a couple years ago, I think I found it: when you fight the first boss that has the spellstone, once you wound its neck enough, it'll start leaking this blue blood. But..... this is like the only instance in the *entire* game when there is even a trace of blood.

What I would give for a remake or sequel

I remember having this game as a child. Got it in a garage sale, popped it in. Instant childhood classic. My brother, mom, and I all just took swings at it constantly, day in and day out trying to inch progress out of it. It took as days to complete 1-2 stages, but the whole family gathered around it and I guess that's what made it fun. Even my mom who doesn't play games at all, let alone hard ones would be playing it when we got home from school and share where she was stuck and what she learned. No matter how many times we died, we couldn't put it down and we eventually through sheer determination beat it 100% legit. Going back to it, it's crazy to imagine now. This game is legit one of the hardest one's I've ever played

It tries to be a ps1 style survival horror game but there is no real horror and the puzzles at some points can be missed if you dont search every inch of a room (water pump) There is an NPC that breaks the 4th wall by making fun of the fact that he wants you to complete the puzzle. Combat is too clunky even for survival horror and it gets annoying as the game feels the need to add more crap to move around.

Crash 2 has a special place in my nostalgia, it's the only one I 100%ed. I couldn't be bothered to torture myself again after that 😂

God, I love the game’s storytelling and character work but I swear the platforming just broke in half after Gloria’s theater. Incorporeal tightropes, a camera that completely refuses to cooperate… and all right before the game’s most platforming-intensive segments. The game was never equipped to facilitate the level of precision it asks for. Thorny towers is full of these god damn exploding bastard rats that rush you down and take off half your health. And if I fall off the platform… just kill me. Making me repeat platforms I already jumped is just bullshit.

I'm SO happy you're covering this game that's been my childhood favorite for ages, but 21 years later I know this game like the back of my hand, except, what the heck is that place you found at 39:47?

The one familiarity I have with Billy Hatcher was when he was a playable character in Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing. Now I wish I grew up playing the original GameCube game cuz it looked fun!

back in the day this was my 3rd game for the N64. I´ve got it accidentally because I saw Bomberman 64 at a friend and wanted this one to my birthday I´ll guess and got Bomberman Hero. Yesterday I´ve finished it cause I newer went throug Natia in the 4th world. It was pretty nice to revisit all those levels they dark and grey in my memory but to be fair, without that nostalgia I wouldn´t really care about this game today.

But they mostly exist to finance and advertise and distribute the game, not make it, or they wouldn't need game directors and programmers and artists. If I had to rank groups of people on their authority for knowing what makes games good, it would be more like 1) People who play and analyze games, 2) People who make games, 3) Everyone else on earth, and 4) Investors and advertisers.
